Magento 1 support will end in 2020
Magento will stop supporting 1.X including the most recent version of 1.9 in June 2020. If you haven’t already started planning your migration to Magento 2, you really need to start. It’s not too late to get the ball rolling – but it may be soon!
Why is Migrating to Magento 2 so Important?
There are many reasons why Magento’s impending sunsetting of Magento 1 support should concern you but security should be top of the list and really all you need to be convinced. The lack of support and updates from it’s creator means there will be no security patches or fixes for hacks after June 2020. People looking to exploit weaknesses on e-commerce sites know this and will no doubt be looking to identify sites that are still on 1.x at the end of support.
Scare tactics aside, there are also many great new features that come out of the box with Magento 2, including:
- enhanced performance
- enhanced checkout
- significant improvements for mobile/responsive
- powerful B2B e-commerce features
If security is not enough to make you start considering your move to Magento 2, falling behind your competition due to outdated technology certainly should.
