Here at Accorin, we’re extremely passionate about what we do. We’re eCommerce geeks – developers, designers, writers, strategists and marketers – with a lot of different viewpoints. That being said, there are a few occasions where our passionate conversations (read: arguments) escalate and a victor must be named. In those circumstances, we turn to data to deliver answers.

Our most recent argument (let’s just call it what it is) was in regards to the proper spelling of the word “eCommerce”. Yes, I’m serious and don’t act like you haven’t pondered the thought yourself. Is it eCommerce, e-commerce, e-Commerce?

Well, after thorough research (OK, Google search), we were provided with our answer. According to Google’s Ngram Viewer, “e-commerce” has been significantly more used than alternative spellings. Merriam-Webster agrees with the spelling.

“E-commerce” it is. The data is conclusive. Going forward, you’ll see us strictly using “e-commerce” (and don’t be afraid to call us out on it!).

The Bottom Line

No matter how you spell it, e-commerce is what we do. Need help with an e-commerce project? You’ve come to the right place. Click here to get in touch.
